What should I log during a flare?

A journal can help you describe your experience at an appointment. Record what happened rather than deciding that a particular meal caused it.

What should I record?

Record the start date and time, affected joint and side, duration, pain, swelling, warmth, redness, and any fever or feeling unwell. Add medicines taken, changes over time, and care you sought.

What belongs in my notes?

You can note recent illness, injury, meals, alcohol, or hydration as observations. These notes alone do not establish what caused a flare.

When should I seek urgent care?

Sudden joint pain and swelling with fever, chills, or feeling unwell needs urgent medical advice. Infection can cause similar symptoms. Do not wait to complete a journal before getting help.
